PHILADELPHIA (June 20, 2016) - Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management announced the recipients of the 2016 Scientific Games Scholarship provided by Scientific Games Corporation, a leading developer of technology-based products, services and associated content for worldwide gaming, lottery and interactive markets. The $10,000 award will assist with tuition costs for students Alyssa Torres and Gonzalo Alcalde. The scholarship will provide $5,000 to each student for their academic excellence and achievement within the Center for Hospitality and Sport Management’s Casino Industry concentration.
“We are honored to support Drexel University’s gaming education initiatives and see two well-deserving students receive some help furthering their education and ensuring a strong future for our industry,” said Gavin Isaacs, Scientific Games President and Chief Executive Officer.
To be eligible for the scholarship, Hospitality Management students must have a focus in gaming or a related industry, appropriate grade point average and submit an essay detailing their knowledge within the industry and why they have selected this path of study.
Recipient Alyssa Torres is a Hospitality Management student and a member of the National Society for Minorities in the Hospitality industry. Recipient Gonzalo Alcalde is a Hospitality Management student from Spain, with future plans of becoming a developer and investor in the casino industry.
“These students are an example of exceptional people that reach beyond the ordinary and achieve in extraordinary ways,” said Robert Ambrose, former casino executive and now instructor of Gaming and Hospitality at Drexel. “I thank Scientific Games for their continued support of academic programs that contribute to the future of the gaming industry.” Ambrose presented the awards at a ceremony on June 1.
