High rollers at Wild Coast Sun Resort can now enjoy placing their bets in a lavish, newly renovated Salon Privé at the four-star beach resort which is 5km away from Port Edward.
The renovation takes advantage of the Resort’s stunning natural surroundings to introduce Sun International’s only casino with an ocean view – with windows overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Exclusive to Platinum and Diamond Most Valued Guests, the new Salon Privé exudes the feel of an exclusive boutique hotel, said interior designer David Muirhead, of David Muirhead & Associates who answered the hotel’s brief to create a practical yet luxurious environment which optimised the space.

The renovation sees a formal entrance lobby created for the Salon Privé, which gives one the sense of having ‘arrived’.
“We have created a more comfortable Tables area, including a space for dining, and increased the size of the Slots area to offer an additional 15 Slots machines,” Muirhead said of the modern take on the exclusive casino space, which gives guests the feeling of being onboard an exclusive cruise liner.
“Each Salon Privé is unique to their clientele, as we want them to feel comfortable in their surroundings. This led to Wild Coast Sun being very colourful.”
Fabrics are in cool colours to match the ocean, from the vibrant blue painted wall panelling and swimming fish carpet, which contrast with red velvet chairs. A touch of glamour is provided by the onyx marble backlit bar, tropical wall paper with palms, and gold Versace wallpaper. All the artwork is original, including an enormous canvas by Luke Batha in the slots area, commissioned especially for the project.
“The ocean view is like a painting – every window is its own artwork,” Muirhead said. “The windows create the uniqueness. You aren’t looking at a busy view, it’s a tranquil sensation which has changed the sense of the casino from those of the dark, bygone era to a lighter, contemporary venue.”

The exterior façade of the entrance and the reception desk are clad in locally-sourced Van Gogh marble that gives a sense of the ocean’s movement with its unique pattern. Muirhead said it had been a joy to create “such a bespoke destination for the Wild Coast Sun”.

Wild Coast Sun General Manager Peter Tshidi said the Salon Privé refurbishment was part of the property’s extensive improvements. “We are not finished yet – we have more exciting news about new additions which will be announced later this year – but we are getting better and better, and this latest stylish upgrade only serves to propel us forward.”
Since the newly refurbished Salon Privé opened at the end of April 2023, eight jackpots totalling R2,5-million have been won.
