GROSVENOR CASINOS DEALS A HELPING HAND TO DUNDEE JOB SEEKERS

January 2024: It is ‘aces high’ for job seekers in Dundee, after Grosvenor Casinos lent a helping hand to kick-start the croupier careers of local trainees.

Seven aspiring casino dealers, aged between 18 and 38 years old, were put through their paces on the five-week gaming academy teaching them how to host popular games such as blackjack, poker, and roulette.

Whilst daunting for some, the successful candidates were tutored on the times tables up to 35 and received tips and tricks on how to improve their finger dexterity for shuffling cards as well as collecting and gathering bets and chips.

From learning casino terminology, the difference between odds and payouts, as well as the correct way to spin the roulette ball, the trainees now have a full house of skills on how best to manage the fast-paced nature of bets placed by guests when visiting the casino.

Jordon Brown, a 26-year-old trainee from Springfield, said: “Having played blackjack before I thought it would be interesting to see what it would be like on the other side of the table. The gaming academy was great fun but also an insightful way to train especially learning the times table up to 35 which was a bit of a challenge.

“I enjoyed learning about Three Card Poker as well as all the different bets that could be made on roulette. I’m proud to have passed the training and can now look forward to my career as a casino dealer.”

As part of Grosvenor Casinos’ commitment to safer gambling, the academy also focused on safeguarding guests and educating team members about the importance of ensuring all guests always play responsibly.

Ross Kiernan, Casino Manager at Grosvenor Casino Dundee, said: “At Grosvenor, we have a strong track record for providing training opportunities for our city’s job seekers to upskill and join our team. A career as a casino dealer is a highly skilled profession which offers flexible working hours and the chance to travel the world and host games for high-net-worth players and at major tournaments.

“We are excited to welcome the seven new recruits to join the team in Dundee and wish them all the best for their future careers.”
