A multi-million-euro tourism investment to include a 5-star hotel and casino in the north eastern Athens suburb of Marousi is one step closer to materialization after the Greek Environment Ministry gave its approval.
Dubbed Project Voria, the 250-million-euro investment set to create more than 1,000 jobs includes a luxury hotel, a casino, entertainment venues, recreation areas, conference halls, shops, and F&B services.
The new project, located near The Mall Athens and the Olympic Stadium, will be carried out by North Star Entertainment.
Following the approval of the environmental impact assessment, the licensing process enters its final stage. Once building permits are granted, construction of the project can begin.
Among others, North Star Entertainment said the new complex will “integrate harmoniously” into the environment and is aimed at evolving into a major attraction for the wider area.
North Star Entertainment said sustainability would be a key feature of the project which will keep building heights low, incorporate the latest energy saving technologies with the aim of reducing the environmental impact and combating light pollution.
Additionally, a large area of the property will be planted with trees and greenery while another section will be granted to the Marousi Municipality for the creation of free public spaces for communal use aimed at promoting health and recreation and improving the quality of life of Marousi residents.
Among others, investors and local authorities expect Project Voria to attract tourism to Marousi with a focus on conference and events tourism.
To ensure easy access and address traffic issues, road works and a special plan will be designed and implemented by the investing company.
“The project will incorporate the most modern environmental standards, focusing on the creation of green spaces which will breathe life into an area that for many years was underutilized and degraded,” said Yiannis Tsirikos, chief executive officer North Star Entertainment.
He went on to add that the company’s vision is to “create a leading entertainment and hospitality destination, which will offer unique experiences to guests”.
The casino project, which was initially stopped in 2021, concerns the relocation of the Parnitha casino to a property known as the “Dilaveri estate” in Marousi owned by the Laskaridis family (Hotel Grande Bretagne, King George, Athens Capital-MGallery). The casino is currently the only one located in Athens.
North Star Entertainment is the owner of the Parnitha casino, known as the Regency Casino Mont Parnes.
Regency Entertainment is the main shareholder of North Star Entertainment.
