Macau, China — Wynn Resorts, a leading global developer and operator of high-end hotels and casinos, has announced its commitment to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs across its global operations by 2026.
This expanded commitment, which covers Wynn’s properties in Macau, China, follows the Company’s successful transition to cage-free eggs at its U.S. resorts.
With more than 2,700 rooms and 28 food and beverage outlets across its hotel and casino resorts in Macau, Wynn is a major player in China’s hospitality and gaming industry.
"Wynn's U.S. resorts sourced 100 percent of eggs from cage-free suppliers in 2023, and we committed to sourcing 100 percent cage-free eggs globally by 2026," announced the company, which also posted its new pledge on LinkedIn.
"Cage-free egg production significantly improves animal welfare and ensures safer, higher-quality food for customers," said Lily Tse, Sustainability Program Director at international NGO Lever Foundation, which collaborated with Wynn Macau on its shift to cage-free eggs. "This announcement from Wynn Resorts aligns with the broader trend toward higher animal welfare in the region’s gaming sector, with other brands in China and Southeast Asia such as Sands, Melco, MGM Resorts, SJM Resorts, Okada, Resorts World, and others having also pledged to end the use of caged eggs in their supply chains.”
Cage-free egg production, in which hens are given the freedom to move in open indoor environments, improves animal welfare and significantly lowers food safety risks compared to caged egg production. Exhaustive research by the European Food Safety Authority found conventional battery cage egg farms have up to 25 times higher rates of contamination by key salmonella strains, leading the EFSA to issue a recommendation for a complete ban on caged egg production across Europe. The best way for individual consumers to protect egg-laying hens is to reduce or eliminate egg consumption.
